Gifts of Securities & Other Non-Cash Gifts

A gift of stock or other securities, such as bonds or mutual funds, is not subject to capital gains tax (up to 30 percent of adjusted gross income), provided it has been held for a period of at least a year. The full fair market value of the gift is tax-deductible as of the day we receive it in our account.

Important: To ensure we can identify and acknowledge your gift, particularly for tax purposes, we must receive the information on this form in advance of the stock transfer.

Employer Matching & Workplace Giving

Many employers match current and past employee contributions to The Land Trust–doubling the impact of your gift. Check with your company to find out whether it matches employee charitable contributions.

Matching gifts may be sent to our mailing address or processed via your employer’s preferred system (Deed, Double the Donation, PayPal).

Donor Advised Fund

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable program which allows donors to make a contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then distribute grants from the fund over time. If you have a DAF, you can transfer funds directly to The Land Trust.

Popular DAF sponsors include Fidelity CharitableSchwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, community foundations, and universities. Please check with your institution to initiate your donation.

IRA Charitable Rollover Gifts

If you are over 70½, you can give up to a maximum of $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as The Land Trust. Since the withdrawal does not count as annual income, no income tax is owed on the amount of the gift.

Commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, this type of gift is also referred to as a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). In the year you turn 73, your gift may also qualify as a required minimum distribution (RMD).
