Landowners Donate White Bluff Property to the Land Trust

In June 2009, William “Spook” Spann and Rolland & Andrea Luplow donated their jointly owned 8-acre White Bluff property to The Land Trust for Tennessee.  This beautiful piece of land is located in eastern Dickson County and is situated along the north side of Turnbull Creek, only a few miles from the Harpeth River.  The property contains a portion of the towering “white bluffs” for which the town of White Bluff is named and is adjacent to the historic White Bluff Iron Forge that dates to the early 1800’s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This wooded property provides excellent wildlife habitat and open space in a rapidly developing area as well as water quality protection for Turnbull Creek and the Harpeth River.  In 2007, the Luplows donated a conservation easement on their 38 acres adjacent to this land.  Their neighbor, “Spook” Spann, had purchased this property to protect the view shed.  As friends and neighbors, they realized this 8-acre property was very important to all of them and that it needed to be protected forever.  After talking to their financial advisors and working though the various options for protecting the land, they realized that the very best way for them to accomplish their goals was to donate the land fee simple to The Land Trust.  By donating their land to The Land Trust they will qualify for a charitable tax deduction equal to the value of the property and know that it will always be protected.
