Artist Rachael McCampbell Partners with Land Trust
Dreams of Bells Bend 6’ x 8’ acrylic on canvas
The Land Trust for Tennessee has protected over 38,000 acres of natural, scenic and historic landscapes and sites across the state, predominantly in our own Middle Tennessee; however, without the support of our communities, land conservation of this scale would not be possible. Yet, in The Land Trust’s 10th Anniversary year, as Tennessee continues to grow and flourish, urban sprawl continues to take a toll on our natural resources. Farmlands and forests are disappearing at an alarming rate and with that the habitat of numerous birds and animals leaves with them. The Land Trust for Tennessee realizes the urgency of the problem of habitat loss in Tennessee and is working each day, primarily with private landowners, to make strides to preserve these open areas before they completely disappear.
In partnership with The Land Trust and Tinney Contemporary Gallery, native Tennessean artist, Rachael McCampbell, has created an exciting and insightful exhibit entitled Endangered Heritage: Nature in the Balance. McCampbell’s understanding of how the loss of habitat irreparably damages Tennessee’s indigenous wildlife inspired her latest series. She focuses on endangered North American birds, animals and marine life such as Whooping Cranes, Florida Panthers, Peninsular Bighorn Sheep and Ivory-billed Woodpeckers, among others. A monumental sculpture/installation acts as a memorial to already extinct birds and animals. Rachael’s artwork is shown and collected nationally and internationally. She divides her time between her studio in Santa Monica, California, and Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee.
Rachael’s show can be seen at Tinney Contemporary gallery in downtown Nashville from March 21st to April 25th. Partial proceeds of all sales from this exhibit will be donated to The Land Trust for Tennessee to save more of Tennessee’s precious land.
